Trauma-informed practice does not have a single definition. Trauma-informed means we’re working with: safety, trustworthiness + transparency, peer support, collaboration + mutuality, empowerment + choice, cultural, historical, gender issues, etc.

If we are all perceiving the world differently, we owe it to ourselves and each other to not assume someone else's experience but check in about it.

Our nervous systems learn through experience. We can't intellectualize ourselves into things like safety or connection.

Our nervous system is activated and our conscious minds tell a story about why. That story may or may not be accurate.

According to evolutionary psychology, our brains are not that far from the Savannah where the only imperative is survival.
